This training does not certify the attendee to work with asbestos rather, through education, teaches the attendee how to avoid costly mistakes when working around asbestos containing materials. Students will be able to describe what asbestos is, define asbestos types and property groups, and understand the desirable properties of asbestos and describe why the mineral was so heavily used.

Students will have an understanding of the common uses and locations of asbestos containing materials (ACM) and asbestos containing building materials (ACBM). Also they will have the knowledge of the difference between intact and damaged asbestos containing materials.

What do I need to know before I take this class?
The Asbestos Awareness ONLINE class is taught within Canvas, a highly functional and easy to use learning management system (LMS). With this online class you receive access into the LMS which not only hosts the course content but provides an online environment where you can download and print the course manual and any other regulatory documents or handouts. All you need is basic computer knowledge to navigate the course, a desktop or laptop computer (no tablets or mobile devices) and speakers.
How long do I have to finish the course?
The course can be completed at your pace, anytime and anywhere. You will have 30 calendar days to complete. You will need to spend a minimum of 2 hours within the online classroom to be eligible for certification. If you need an extension to get through the class, please let us know before your expiration date.
How long is this certification valid for?
The course certificate is valid one year from issue.
Why can’t I print a course certificate when I complete the class?
CHC Training course certificates are individually customized and made. We utilize a third party to enable secure issuing and printing of your of course certification to ensure each individual receives a high-quality, authentic and original document. We want students to have something they are proud of and our custom certificates are certainly display-worthy! If you would like us to send you a hard copy certificate from our office, please follow the instructions on how to notify us at the end of the course.
Can I get a replacement certificate if I lose mine?

Yes! This asbestos awareness course is in compliance with the following three Federal Regulations:
Occupational Safety and Health Standards
Subpart title: Toxic and Hazardous Standards
The employer shall also provide, at no cost to employees who perform housekeeping operations in an area which contains ACM or PACM, an asbestos awareness training course, which shall at a minimum contain the following elements: health effects of asbestos, locations of ACM and PACM in the building/facility, recognition of ACM and PACM damage and deterioration, requirements in this standard relating to housekeeping, and proper response to fiber release episodes, to all employees who perform housekeeping work in areas where ACM and/or PACM is present. Each such employee shall be so trained at least once a year.
Occupational Safety and Health Standards
Subpart title: Toxic and Hazardous Substances
Training for employees performing Class IV operations shall be consistent with EPA requirements for training of local education agency maintenance and custodial staff as set forth at 40 CFR 763.92(a)(1). Such a course shall include available information concerning the locations of thermal system insulation and surfacing ACM/PACM, and asbestos-containing flooring material, or flooring material where the absence of asbestos has not yet been certified; and instruction in recognition of damage, deterioration, and delamination of asbestos containing building materials. Such course shall take at least 2 hours.
AHERA CFR § 763.92 Training and periodic surveillance.
(1) The local education agency shall ensure, prior to the implementation of the O&M provisions of the management plan, that all members of its maintenance and custodial staff (custodians, electricians, heating/air conditioning engineers, plumbers, etc.) who may work in a building that contains ACBM receive awareness training of at least 2 hours, whether or not they are required to work with ACBM. New custodial and maintenance employees shall be trained within 60 days after commencement of employment. Training shall include, but not be limited to:
(i) Information regarding asbestos and its various uses and forms.
(ii) Information on the health effects associated with asbestos exposure.
(iii) Locations of ACBM identified throughout each school building in which they work.
(iv) Recognition of damage, deterioration, and delamination of ACBM.
(v) Name and telephone number of the person designated to carry out general local education agency responsibilities under§ 763.84 and the availability and location of the management plan.
